Bereavement

Our founder and Chief Executive, Steve Dayman has personal experience of the horrific ordeal of losing someone to meningitis. Steve lost his own son Spencer, when Spencer was just 14 months old.
Many of our supporters find it a great comfort to speak to someone who has been through a similar experience and Steve regularly visits bereaved families throughout the UK. at their request, to share his experiences and explain about our work. Most people find it very helpful to do something positive after the tragedy of losing someone, and many families find that being actively involved with Meningitis UK’s Search 4 a Vaccine has helped them immensely.
If you would like Steve to visit, please telephone Wendy Lewis on 0117 302 6192 or email: wendylewis@meningitisuk.org Alternatively, Steve can be reached at any time on his mobile on 07946 631830.

You may also find that talking to a trained counsellor is helpful in coping with your emotions. Sometimes, people are concerned that their emotions are different, or ‘wrong’ somehow, and this can feel very isolating at what is already a difficult time. The people at Cruse Bereavement Care have the experience to help you understand your feelings and gradually come to terms with them. You can talk to someone sympathetic by calling their number on 0870 1671677, or email them on helpline@cruse.org.uk
